BALTIMORE, MD -- The FIRST Robotics Competition's premier event in Maryland is moving to Baltimore for 2010. The Chesapeake Regional, featuring more than 1,000 high school students in 49 robotics teams from around the nation, will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center on March 11-13, 2010. The annual event has been held at the Naval Academy in Annapolis for the past seven years, and comes to Baltimore to a larger facility and a greater base of attendees, sponsors and volunteers.

Michael Eisenklam, principal at Eldersburg Elementary School, has been selected as the Carroll County Public School System’s nominee for the Maryland Outstanding Technology Leader in Education Award. This award is presented by the Maryland Society for Educational Technology to recognize an educator outside the classroom who has made exemplary contributions to the implementation of technology in Maryland’s schools.

Karen Ganjon, Director of Minority Achievement and Intervention Programs for Carroll County Public Schools, was selected for recognition by the Maryland State Advisory Council on Gifted and Talented Education.

Ganjon was recognized in the category of State Leadership in Gifted Education for her leadership in gifted and talented education at the state level and significant contributions to improving programs and services for gifted and talented students in Maryland.

January and February not only brought us snow, but a new semester as well:

Technology is always being adapted into schools, but now a whole new way of teaching has surfaced. It has come to Century and Liberty High School, using video conferencing software. This software links these two schools into a singular classroom. Liberty High gave up a part of their media center so it can be used as the conferencing room.
