A group of twelve sixth grade students in the gifted and talented program at Northwest Middle School has a created a website that explores the history of Robert Moton High School. Under the direction of teacher Gayle Sands, the students worked to develop the background knowledge, interview techniques, and technical skills necessary to create an original website (wiki). The website documents the rich, unreported history of Robert Moton High School, the only segregated high school in Carroll County, and demonstrates the value of primary source research in today's learning environment.

The students researched the history of the school and conducted interviews with many former students. The website, moton-project-ccps.pbworks.com/, includes interview summaries, video interviews, Robert Moton High School history, and senior class portraits from the school. Visitors to the website will also find information about the history of school segregation in Carroll County, as well as a biography of Robert Russa Moton, the educator for whom the school was named.

The website was presented at the Carroll County Public Schools Education That Is Multicultural/English for Speakers of Other Languages Summer Institute on June 25, 2009. The project was a collaborative effort between Northwest Middle School, The Friends and Former Students of Robert Moton High School, and The Carroll County History Project and served as a pilot for using wikis in the classroom.
