Apparently not as bright as Obama, having acquired the adulation of most media without spending a dime. In the mayors case, if you can't intimidate or silence them, buy them, and subjugate them by replacing the editorial staff.
The Weekly Register-Call has been bought by Black Hawk Mayor David Spellman. The newspaper about 40 miles west of Denver is the state's oldest after the closing of the Rocky Mountain News.
...
The newspaper will be merged with the competing Gilpin County News. Editor Aaron Storms says the mayor won't have any control over editorial content of the combined newspaper.
But the Register-Call's current editor has been dismissed. Debra Krause says the mayor bought the newspaper to silence criticism of him. Spellman has not commented on the sale.
The community can never trust a media outlet that serves a political master.
