Carroll County Food Sunday (CCFS) volunteers were treated to a spaghetti dinner last month, by the members of the Deer Park Lions Club. The dinner, which was attended by 40 CCFS volunteers as well as 20 members of the Deer Park Lions Club and their spouses, was held to thank the volunteers for donating their time at the CCFS food bank. Members of the Deer Park Lions Club are among the nearly 100 volunteers who serve regularly to provide sustenance to the needy of our community.

Volunteers Marie Sanner and Fran Bartlett were recognized for their years of service to CCFS. Ms. Bartlett, who does most of the scheduling for CCFS, was the 2008 Carroll County Commissioners Volunteer of the Year and was recently inducted into the Maryland State Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. Ms. Sanner, who served as the manager at the Westminster branch of CCFS for 7 years and the Eldersburg branch for 15 years, was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for her 21 years of service to Carroll County Food Sunday.

The Deer Park Lions Club presented a check for $500 to David Taylor, Director of CCFS. Carroll County Food Sunday is a non-profit organization of volunteers and members of the community coming together as neighbors helping neighbors by supporting Carroll County residents in meeting their emergency and supplemental food needs. CCFS, being an all-volunteer charitable organization, spends $0.94 cents of every dollar it receives directly on food and only $.06 cents on overhead and administrative expenses. According to Mr. Taylor, “It was kind of a celebration of volunteerism because that is the spirit of the Lions Club and, of course, Food Sunday is supported entirely by volunteers.”
