#FreeStacy: Twitter Meets the Sarkeesian Method and the Streisand Effect

I suppose I should be enjoying a bit of a schadenfreude moment: About two years ago, I was banned from commenting on Robert Stacy McCain's blog, The Other McCain, for offending one of his gatekeepers. Now Stacy's been banned from Twitter, apparently for offending one of its gatekeepers, professional offendee Anita Sarkeesian. But no feelings of poetic justice here. Because I'm above such petty sentiments, see?

The Twitter Police Target Conservatives

debra j saundersThis month, Twitter announced it has a Trust and Safety Council because, as CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted, "Twitter stands for freedom of expression, speaking truth to power, and empowering dialogue. That starts with safety." Apparently the social media platform's powerful CEO hasn't figured out that when you pat yourself on the back for speaking truth to power — and at the same time, protecting the masses from unsafe speech — you sound like the Politburo. Or a modern university that uses speech codes to muzzle dissenting — that is, conservative — opinions.

Apple's Involuntary Servitude

After the San Bernardino massacre on Dec. 2, 2015, the FBI lawfully acquired the cellphone of one of the killers and persuaded a federal judge to authorize its agents to access the contents of the phone. Some of what it found revealed that the killer used the phone to communicate with victims and perhaps confederates and even innocents who unwittingly provided material assistance.

What Freedom of Speech?

JudgeAndrewPNapolitanoThe photos of 40 of the world's government leaders marching arm-in-arm along a Paris boulevard on Sunday with the president of the United States not among them was a provocative image that has fomented much debate.

Education and the "Progressive" Corporate State

Speaking in Knoxville, Tennessee on January 9 US president Barack Obama unveiled an initiative to provide two years of community college tuition-free, nationwide, to anyone meeting attendance and grade requirements.

Conscience Counts

human rights glifAmerica has always been a nation with great respect for the right of conscience. As a people, we like the idea that a person should follow their heart, go with their gut, do what feels right. Our laws have traditionally followed this course by according deference to individual conscience on a whole host of matters.

" If the American People ever allow private banks to control the issue of currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them, will deprive the people of their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered...
